Fill PDF Form
Fill existing AcroForm fields with checked font and appearance handling
About this tool
Fill PDF Form edits existing AcroForm text fields, multiline inputs, checkboxes, radio groups, dropdowns and option lists. Current values, read-only flags and required flags are shown; read-only fields remain unchanged and partially completed required fields can be saved. Changed values produce a separate downloadable PDF. Existing embedded appearances are retained when no update is needed. Any appearance that must be created uses Helvetica/WinAnsi, so unsupported text is rejected; even an unchanged Chinese field without an appearance can require rebuilding and stop export. Optional flattening writes supported visible appearances into page content and removes controls while preserving other annotations. The tool does not create new fields on scans, validate business submission rules, sign documents or support XFA. PDFs containing any signature field, including an empty one, are rejected. Limits include 200 MiB, 1,000 pages, 200 fields, 400 widgets, 500 total choices and 8,192 characters per field or option.
Scenario Recipes
Complete an existing application form
Goal: Save selected changes without overwriting read-only or existing multilingual appearances.
- Load the AcroForm and review field names, current values and required/read-only flags.
- Edit supported fields and choose existing options. Leave flattening off when the receiver needs interactive controls.
- Create and download the copy, then verify text, check marks and radio/list selections in another reader.
Result: An edited form or explicitly flattened submission copy.
Failure Clinic (Common Pitfalls)
Chinese or emoji input fails
Cause: New field appearances use a WinAnsi font.
Fix: Use an editor that embeds an appropriate font; do not replace meaningful characters merely to pass export.
The receiver still reports missing required data
Cause: Saving a partial form is allowed and business rules are not executed.
Fix: Review required fields and the receiver’s instructions before submitting.

Which controls can I edit?
Existing text and multiline fields, checkboxes, radio groups, dropdowns and option lists are supported. Read-only values are kept. Button fields cannot be edited; signature fields cause the entire rewrite to be rejected.
Can I fill a scanned paper form?
A scan contains page pixels rather than AcroForm fields. This tool does not add fields or edit those pixels; create interactive fields in a form-authoring application first.
Why can an unchanged Chinese field block saving?
When that field has no usable appearance, saving a consistent form may require a new one. New appearances use Helvetica/WinAnsi and cannot encode Chinese or emoji. Existing unchanged embedded appearances are kept when usable.
Are required fields enforced?
Required flags are displayed, but blank required fields may be saved for partial completion. The tool does not run document JavaScript or validate the receiving organization’s rules.
What does flatten after filling change?
It removes supported interactive form widgets and writes their appearances into page content. Ordinary annotations remain separate. Page content is still editable with suitable software; keep the original form for later changes.
Can I fill an XFA or signed form?
No. XFA is detected before reading AcroForm fields. Encrypted files and any signature fields, even unsigned empty fields, are rejected so rewriting cannot be mistaken for preserving a signature.
